With his fourth and latest book, Home Before Dark, Sager approaches the ‘Haunted House’ sub-genre in a new way taking the tropes we’re accustomed to, and flipping them on their head. Riley Sager made quite a name for himself these past few years, releasing hit after hit of horror novels that have added modern takes onto many different horror sub-genres. Riley Sager’s newest novel, Home Before Dark, is the perfect example of just that. Since we’ve had countless renditions of classic horror stories, authors are now beginning to honor and critique the horror they fell in love with, while adding a new lens in which to view these stories. There are many new horror authors who have been making waves in the genre this past decade, taking the concepts that the genre’s foundation were built on and twisting the expectations of the readers, adding layers for a fresh reading experience.
